I dedicate this page with great sadness to the great people of Springfield who have left us. One in particular did not die on the show, but was brutally murdered. Not only is this page a salute to the Springfield townies who died; but to a very special person, the late Phil Hartman. You may remember him from such characters as Lionel Hutz, Esq. or Troy McClure. He will be missed, along with Maude, Bleeding Gums Murphy and Dr. Marvin Monroe. And I cannot forget, Frank Grimes, or has he so liked to be called by those close to him, Grimey. They will all be missed.

Maude Flanders last episode was aired in Season 11 called, Faith Off. It was a tragic end for Ned, but soon he gets back on his feet with the help of Homer J. Simpson. Maude is survived by her husband, Ned Flanders and sons, Rod & Todd. Maude will be remembered, as said in her eulogy, she "didn't grab our attention with catch phrases."

This episode, 'Round Springfield, which aired Season 6; Lisa's beloved mentor, Bleeding Gums Murphy dies. Bart receives a settlement of $250 from Krusty-O's cereal when he swallows a sharp object. Bart uses the money to get Lisa Bleeding Gums' first record, "Sax on the Beach." He is survived by Lisa Simpson. "Come for the funeral, stay for the pie!"

Homer's unwanted nemesis, was short-lived on the show, but well-loved by all. Frank Grimes was a 35 year old Springfieldite who earned everything the hard way. Abandoned by his parents at age 4, Frank spent his childhood years as a delivery boy, delivering toys to more fortunate children. On his 18th birthday, he was tragically blown up in a silo explosion.

He didn't die in an episode, but when he died, he took his characters with him. You may know Phil Hartman from his work on Saturday Night Live, like the Anal Retentive, Susan, the She-Male, in Sprockets, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, and his work in "NewsRadio" as Bill McNeal. His death shocked fans across the nation and how it was done is even more terrible. (Read Article) The Simpsons has still made no remarks about the loss of Troy McClure and attorney at law, Lionel Hutz. Thank goodness, no voices have replaced him. I don't know what more to say about this subject, but Phil where ever you may be, you're in our hearts.

Phil Hartman, 1948-1998
